MARK E. BETTERS
Mark Betters brings a diverse background to his practice. Other than the legal profession, his experiences include having taught High School, having been a professional musician, and being a three-time marathon finisher. He and his family live in the Mankato area and are an active part of the greater Mankato community. Mark’s wife, Wendy, is a small business owner, photographer, and a board member of a local non-profit organization.
Mark’s practice focuses on Criminal Law and Family Law. He practices throughout the State of Minnesota, with the majority of his cases being in Southern Minnesota. As an active litigator, he is uniquely aware of the atmosphere of Southern Minnesota courtrooms, including scheduling, court funding issues, and the differences between the judges. He is engaged in the Minnesota State Bar Association, including having been President of the Minnesota Sixth District Bar Association.
Mark grew up south of the Twin Cities. He went to undergraduate school at University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point, where Mark graduated as the Student of the Year in the Music Department. He worked as a professional musician around this time, including performing, teaching, composing, and arranging. After college, Mark taught at Eastview High School in Apple Valley, Minnesota. Eventually, Mark attended Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he graduated magna cum laude. Mark has been practicing in Mankato, Minnesota since graduating from Hamline University School of Law.
The motto of Mark Betters’ practice is “your voice…legally speaking.” It is premised on the idea that handling legal problems without someone helping you tends to be intimidating and stressful. When Mark represents you, it is his pledge to; 1) listen to you; 2) help with difficult decisions; and 3) translate those decisions into effective representation. “Your voice…legally speaking” is being able to count on being heard, and having an effective legal voice on your side.
Mark’s Family Law practice includes divorce, child support, maintenance (alimony), parenting time, harassment restraining orders, orders for protection, relocating children, custody modification, and appeals.
Mark’s Criminal Law practice includes jury trials, all types of criminal charges, constitutional rights violations, expert witness issues, juvenile charges, Driver’s License issues, and civil forfeiture actions.
